The "Pleasure of Your Company" music series sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library presents the "Virtual Strangers," a bluegrass band, on Sunday, March 17, at 2:30 PM in the intimate setting of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center.
Founded in 1992 in Napa, the "Virtual Strangers" are respected throughout the San Diego and California bluegrass scene and took first place at the 2007 Arizona Bluegrass Band festival. Band members include Mike Tatar Sr., on banjo and guitar, Jon Cherry on mandolin and guitar, Yvonne Tatar on stand-up bass, Kit Birkett on guitar and, when he's in town, fiddler Mike Tatar, Jr. All members share in lead and harmony vocals, producing a nice three part harmony. The Strangers' sound is a mixture of traditional, Stanley, Monroe, and Flatt and Scruggs material as well as more progressive material.
There is no charge for the concert, although donations are appreciated. Meet the musicians at a complimentary reception following the concert.
Location: Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center, 10301 Scripps Lake Drive in Scripps Ranch near Miramar Lake. Google Map. Overflow parking is available on Meanley Drive off Scripps Ranch Blvd. Call (858) 538-8158 or visit www.srfol.org for information.
