A Salute To The Spirit Of San Diego In WWII

Please join Air Group One of the Commemorative Air Force as we honor veterans and veteran organizations for a "Salute to the Spirit of San Diego in WWII" reception as part of our continuing effort to preserve the aviation heritage of San Diego.

San Diego played a significant role in the defense of the free world in World War Two. Not all of America's heroes were in Military uniform. There was also a remarkable mobilization of America's industrial might, ingenuity and management skills of men and women in San Diego that contributed to America's "Arsenal of Democracy."

The national effort produced two-thirds of all Allied military equipment used in World War II, including 286,000 warplanes of which, 18,256 were B-24's. Only one B-24 remains flying today and will be at Gillespie Field, May 1-3, 2013.

We will have retired Brigadier General of the United States Air Force and B-24 pilot Robert L. "Bob" Cardenas as special guest for this occasion along with other distinguished aviators of WWII from San Diego.

A minimum donation of $30 for admittance to this reception with refreshments.
