Kodomo-no-hi (Children's Day) was originally known as Tango-no-Sekko (Boys' Day) and is traditionally celebrated on May 5th. The Garden will be celebrating a day earlier. This national holiday in Japan celebrates the happiness and well-being of all children, and expresses gratitude for mothers.

Colorful carp streamers called koinobori and elaborate samurai helmet displays are showcased in and around the house to bring good fortune to the boys in the home. These decorations symbolize courage and strength. Kashi-wa mochi, a traditional type of sweet typically eaten on Children’s Day, will be sold along with iced tea.
