Cory Richards, who was named a 2012 Adventurer of the Year by National Geographic, was the first American to climb an 8,000-meter peak in winter.
While most expeditions attempt the Himalayan peaks in summer, Richards heroically made American history in 2010, withstanding savage blizzards and an avalanche to summit Gasherbrum II.
In his presentation, Richards will recount a second Himalayan climb – a failed-attempt of Everest in 2012 that once again nearly took his life. An award-winning photographer, he captured the struggle through hurricane-force winds and minus 50ºF temperatures.
The event will feature his captivating reflection on humility and the ups and downs of a life under the spell of the mountains. The presentation will take place Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the San Diego Natural History Museum at 7:00 p.m.
