On October 1st from 9:45-11am meet Australian-born Geraldine Brooks is the Pulitzer Prize recipient and former reporter for the Wall Street Journal. A New York Times best seller, her book, "Caleb’s Crossing" is the 2013 One Book, One San Diego selection. Her other books, "Year of Wonders" and "People of the Book," are international bestsellers which have been translated into more than 25 languages.
About the Book
In 1665, Caleb became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. A tale of love and faith, magic and adventure. Bethia Mayfield yearns after an education that is closed by her sex. At twelve, she encountered Caleb, the young son of a chieftain, and the two forge a tentative secret friendship that draws each into the alien world of the other. Caleb is in Cambridge, studying Latin and Greek among the colonial elite. Bethia finds herself indentured as a housekeeper and can closely observe Caleb's crossing of cultures.
