San Diego Opera Community Conversation - Verdi And Gustav III: A Fateful Encounter In Stockholm

This panel of experts on Swedish history, theatre and opera will talk about the main subject of Verdi's opera "A Masked Ball," King Gustav III of Sweden who was assassinated at a masked ball at the opera house in Stockholm in 1792.
In a free-ranging and fascinating discussion, our experts will look at Gustav's life and reign, the political reasons for his assassination, and compare the opera's story to the real-life history of this multi-faceted monarch. Liberally enhanced by musical examples from the opera by Dr. Reveles at the keyboard, this will be an evening of Swedish history and Italian music that you will not want to miss!
