There are over seven thousand Grandparents raising their grandchildren in San Diego. The first-ever Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Symposium took place on April 21, 2012, and now the symposium is back for another year with the help of AARP.
The 2013 Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Symposium will offer ideas on how to organize and form a support system for many of the struggling families in San Diego.
On Saturday, September 7 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., grandparents will be able to choose to participate at regional sites rather than going to the main site for the symposium. The keynote speakers will webcast to three other locations, where there will be talks and activities unique to each location.
AARP will be at the Chula Vista site sharing information on housing, public assistance, and nutrition programs, as well as the legal issues around adoption and custody. The event is free and includes continental breakfast and lunch; in addition, childcare will be provided and exhibitors will be on hand to share information and resources.
