Robert Irwin began his career as a painter, exhibiting at LA's legendary Ferus Gallery and later became a leading figure in the West Coast's Light and Space movement.

Irwin is the first visual artist ever to receive the MacArthur Foundation's "Genius" Fellowship (1984). He has completed over 50-site specific installations and in 1997 designed and developed the extraordinary Central Garden in LA. Irwin's works are included in over 30 public collections worldwide.
