Human sacrifice, cannibalism, incest…these are among the family secrets of the House of Atreus. The great King Agamemnon, hero of the Trojan War, meets a bloody homecoming at the hands of his vengeful wife Clytemnestra, becoming the victim of an ancient family curse – and his own arrogant pride and crimes of war.

Chronos Theatre Group, in conjunction with the Encinitas Theatre Consortium, presents a reading of the Greek tragedy Agamemnon by Aeschylus, translated by Robert Fagles, on Sunday, September 29th at 2:00 p.m. in the Encinitas Library. The suggested donation is $10.00.

There will be a reception with libations for a small additional donation before and after the performance, as well as a talkback with the actors afterwards.

For more information, visit our website at, email or call (619) 356-1492.

The reading will be directed by Chronos Artistic Director, Celeste Innocenti, and will reunite several of the original members of the award-winning Grass Roots Greeks ensemble, including the series co-producers, Linda Castro and David Cohen, who will offer dramaturgy. The Grass Roots Greeks performed all the extant Greek tragedies as readings and full productions as a response to the tragedy of 9-11. Now, ten years later, we are still caught in the throes of war, and the message of the tragedies is as timely as ever -- as well as the healing influence of catharsis, the collective expression of emotion. Come join us on an odyssey of discovery as we explore this ancient classic!
