There is something special about your favorite rock band doing an acoustic unplugged show. Few people would argue that Nirvana's unplugged versions of their songs reveal a whole new layer of thoughtfulness and emotion which were not as apparent in their original versions.
Now, local San Diego artist, Gloria Muriel, AKA Glow will attempt to achieve the visual equivalent of an unplugged concert in her solo exhibition opening February 8, 2014 at Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla.
Muriel's solo show, titled “More Than Grounded” is a change from her usual works. Her previous works have generally been acrylic paintings as well as large-scale aerosol murals. In contrast, Glow's new show will feature intimate and quietly expressive ball-point pen sketches. However, she will still retain much of her previous pop surrealist influences in her new exhibition.
The sketches show the progression of Muriel's work, as well as the progression of her inner-self, which is at once beautiful and terrifying. The artist uses a combination of nature, humanity and the subconscious in order to explore ideas regarding art, a non-religious sense of spirituality and science. The works invite the viewer to enter and become lost in the magical terrain of the artist's inner world.
The opening reception on February 8 will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will end at 10:00 p.m. The is no cost to attend the show and complimentary beverages will be served.
It event is all ages, however one must be over 21 years of age to drink alcohol.
