Mendelssohn’s Hymn Of Praise

Internationally acclaimed pipa virtuosa Wu Man premieres a new concerto work (by Farewell, My Concubine composer Zhao Jiping) for her fascinating instrument, and Jahja Ling leads a rare performance of Felix Mendelssohn's Second Symphony, known as Hymn of Praise. (Mendelssohn composed this "Symphony-Cantata on Words of the Holy Bible, for Soloists, Chorus and Orchestra" on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the printed word.)

Sopranos Janice Chandler-Eteme and Heidi Grant Murphy join Maestro Ling and the San Diego Master Chorale for this neglected Mendelssohn choral masterpiece.

ZHAO JIPING: New Commission: Concerto for Pipa and Orchestra
MENDELSSOHN: Symphony No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 52: Lobg
