San Diego Opera Taste Of Opera Cooking Class - 'Don Quixote'

Chef Katherine Emmenegger from Great News! Discount Cookware and Cooking School has created four cooking class menus inspired by the settings of each of our operas in 2014: Italy’s Calabria region for "Pagliacci," Basque for "The Elixir of Love," Smörgåsbord for "A Masked Ball," and Spanish for "Don Quixote."

Chef Emmenegger will once again be accompanied by sous chef (and San Diego Opera Geisel Director of Education and Outreach) Dr. Nicolas Reveles, who will entertain guests with facts, stories and musical excerpts while these meals are being created. These events at Great News! sellout well in advance, so an early sign up is suggested for those who wish to attend.

Date: Friday, January 10, 2014 at 6 PM – "Don Quixote"

In the magical world of Don Quixote’s Spain, the eccentric knight pursues his impossible dream of capturing the heart of Dulcinea, his idealized woman. Dr. Nicolas Reveles will guide you through the story and music while chef Katherine prepares the flavors of Spain.

Recipes include: Seafood Cakes with Saffron Aioli; Chorizo & Manchego Skewers; Serrano Ham wrapped Figs; Goat Cheese Stuffed Piquillo Peppers; Fried Eggplant with Smoked Paprika Honey; Caramel Cheesecake with Port Drizzle.

Tickets: $49.00 for each individual, tickets may be purchased online: or by calling 1-888-GR8-CHEF.

Location: Great News! Discount Cookware and Cooking School, 1788 Garnet Avenue San Diego, CA 92109 Google Maps
