Come celebrate Ireland with the 34th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival. With more than 120 parade entries and thousands in attendance, this has become one of the largest single-day events in San Diego.
On March 16, 2014 the festival will be celebrating the dedication and commitment of the many volunteers that make up the ICSC, the support of the Irish community and that of our sponsors and donors. Brian McLellan is our 2014 Parade Chair. Our 2014 Parade Theme is Celebrating People in Public Service.
We have a Flag Raising ceremony in Balboa park at 9:45 a.m. and the Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. from Sixth Avenue and Juniper Street, travels north on Fifth Avenue to Upas, then over to Sixth Avenue and South on Sixth to conclude at Juniper Street. Festival opens at 9 am.
All day there are Craft Booths, Food Booths, an authentic Celtic Village, Beer Gardens, and a Kids Zone with rides. Over 30,000 people are expected to attend. Trolleys run from a free parking lot near the Prado in Balboa Park and several other locations to the Festival.
Other events include a Catholic Mass held in the Imperial House, 505 Kalmia Street, at 8 a.m. and a Military Flag presentation ceremony at Sixth Avenue and Laurel at 9:45 a.m. Our main Parade sponsor is Guinness.
With over 120 entries, includes Marching Bands, Floats, Police and Fire Department units, the Emerald Societies, Clowns, equestrian entries, Border Patrol units, Scout Troops, bagpipe contingents, dancing groups, drill teams, roller skaters, antique cars, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, representatives from Ireland, and the reigning Miss Colleen and Smiling Irishman.
