Leading international artists from multiple visual arts categories will return to San Diego's downtown Waterfront Park for the 2017 San Diego Festival of the Arts.

Thanks to the event's overwhelming success at the new downtown location last year after 29 years in La Jolla, the 2017 festival will welcome nearly 200 artists in this highly competitive, juried festival. The prestigious Arts Fair Source Book recently ranked the San Diego Festival of the Arts as one of the top 100 art fairs in the nation.

The 2017 San Diego Festival of the Arts will be held at Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego on June 10 and 11, 2017. Boasting interactive fountains, intimate gardens, harbor views and excellent access to public transit, Waterfront Park has emerged as a quintessential destination for residents and visitors alike. Presented by the Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation, the 2017 San Diego Festival of the Arts will once again be the venue's premier arts event of the year.

Highly respected names in the art community and 2016 Best of Show winners have already confirmed for the 2017 festival, including Dorothee Naumburg, a celebrated jewelry designer who spent three years apprenticing under a master goldsmith in Germany before coming to United States and beginning a career in custom design and manufacturing.

Naumburg creates sculptural and understated jewelry, reducing the lines of design to just the essentials, editing out unneeded elements and distractions in the process to create contemporary but wearable pieces.

Also joining Dorothee for 2017 is textile Best of Show winner MOA (Marvin Obasogie) Aimiuwu, whose unique designs elevate batik work to an entirely new level. Aimiuwu approaches the dying process in a very different way, practicing and experimenting with the technique to make it his own.

Incorporating his own original motifs, custom designs use rich, bold and vivid colors. Many works include frames that he has custom designed, individually hand carving and handcrafting frames for each art piece. The artwork and its complementary custom frame become a one-of-a-kind, all inclusive custom creation in the truest sense.

The San Diego Festival of the Arts will highlight diverse works of painting, sculpture, photography, glass, jewelry, ceramics, wood, fiber and mixed media from internationally known artists. In addition to art displays, guests at the 2017 event will enjoy live music and entertainment, a craft beer and wine garden and a variety of cuisine from San Diego’s top restaurants.

Festival tickets start at $12 (in advance, online) with proceeds benefiting adaptive sports programs for San Diegans with disabilities. To date, the festival has raised more than $2 million in support of more than 30 programs, through which more than 50,000 people with disabilities have participated. More than $90,000 was dispersed to 33 programs from 2016 proceeds alone, benefiting over 8,000 individual San Diegans. The Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 foundation.
