Live building demonstrations will take place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 3725 30th St. San Diego.

This multi-day event begins Saturday, January 13 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and continues through the end of January. Tours of the onsite workshop and sample buildings will offer an inside look at alternative housing options.

The demonstration will showcase the use of “I Wood Technology”. This revolutionary and innovative design approach to building uses features similar to Lego and IKEA products. Components lock together for easy assembly, can be put together with a screwdriver, and are more sustainable than virtually any other building system.

Designs can easily be used for “Emergency Sleeping Cabins” for the homeless, emergency shelters for refugees and disaster relief, tiny and micro cottages, and Accessory Dwelling Units for use on a property with an existing home.

With an estimated 1.6 billion people living in inadequate housing globally and over half a million homeless individuals in the US there is a critical demand for affordable and sustainable housing ideas.

Treecycling offers a unique solution to this growing crisis.

The three-week event is open to the public and community organizations are encouraged to attend.

On Saturday, January 20 students from High Tech High School will be on hand learning to build and disassemble “Emergency Sleeping Cabins.”

The visionary behind Treecycling and the I Wood building method, Christopher R. Scott, brought the original IKEA stores to North America. Christopher states “our mission is to meet basic housing needs around the planet while sustaining forest environments for future generations.”
