The Ordover Gallery is pleased to present "Elizabeth Carmel: Tuscany," October 15, 2009 - January 17, 2010 at the gallery's Solana Beach location. The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, October 15, 6pm - 8:30pm. The reception will coincide with the Cedros Design District's Third Thursdays Gallery Night.

Elizabeth Carmel is a recipient of the prestigious Hasselblad Master Photographer award. Each year, only 12 photographers worldwide are honored with the award and with the placement of their work in the Hasselblad collection in Sweden.

Carmel, a Sierra-based photographer, specializes in unique, expressive imagery of landscapes, waterscapes and international locales. Her work combines dramatic photography, vivid colors, and artistic touches to create new, captivating visions. Her Tuscan imagery is both lyrical and dreamlike in its handling of light and atmosphere in the pastoral locale.

Regarding her work, Carmel says, "I strive to create images that link us to feelings and perceptions we may not access regularly in our daily lives. I believe that great fine art photographs are a gateway through habitual thinking to a larger perspective."

Through her use of a Hasselblad H1 with an ultra-high resolution 22 megapixel digital back, Carmel is able to capture subtle details and transfer them to large prints with stunning clarity and color. She does her own printing on fine art paper or canvas with long-life pigmented inks.

Carmel's award winning images are in numerous galleries and private collections throughout the United States, and have been on display at the Nevada Museum of Art. Her book, "Brilliant Waters, Portraits of Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and the High Sierra," included a forward by Robert Redford, and was featured in "People Magazine." Carmel's imagery has also been featured in "Outdoor Photographer," "Sierra Magazine," and "Sunset Magazine," among others.

In addition to imagery by Elizabeth Carmel, photographs by Tom O Scott, Peter Fay, Abe Ordover and Lisa Ross, as well as paintings and monoprints by Saphire, will be on display.
