About Jen's Work:
Jen Jansen is a historian, an image taker, a legacy maker. Through use of the tintype portrait Jansen preserves both the legacy of this disappearing art and the lineage of her subjects. Jansen’s dedication to this approach to portraiture calls on the subject to reflect inward and draw the self to the forefront.
The captured image will embody spirit of the sitter and preserve it for the ages. As humans we are fascinated by the definition of self; the portrait helps to solidify identity and satisfy the desire for legacy. Keeping with the tradition of the media Jansen’s tintype portraits achieve both.
For Jansen these works are about a capturing of spirit, a preservation of life, an entering into record.
