Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th Century by Joseph Pilates and is popular in many countries. It is a body conditioning routine that helps to build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance.
The class starts with stretching, and then we integrate the exercising with small apparatus, such as balls, rings, or light weights. As we continue, we work on upper body strength and work the body’s center core. The session continues with lower body exercising and a cool-down.
Special introductory summer rate for summer: $4 members, $6 for non-members. Instructor Lisa Niles has taught Pilates since 2003. She is a member of the IDEA Health and Fitness Association.
Workshop Dates: Thursday mornings from 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.
