The most popular movie, TV, comic, and video game characters are coming together in a new way through art. Artists are uniting beloved pop icons together to make one awesome combination at Thumbprint Gallery’s new group show “SPLICE.”

Notable characters, such as Hello Kitty and Wolverine, will be merged together to create crazy and bizarre crossovers. The reception is on Saturday, November 9 and runs until December 9 at Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla.

The opening reception starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m. and is open to the public.

Toygami is a local graffiti artist and graphic designer who makes urban origami. His papercraft models are the next step in his street art career. It is something new that he believes gives him a better voice in the urban art community. His creations start as pencil drawings on paper. Then, they are scanned into a computer where they are turned into 2D models that can be folded into 3D ones.

Another artist exhibiting is Jack Stricker, a graduate of San Diego State University, who currently resides in Ocean Beach. His education comes from both school and the streets. Stricker utilizes a broad range of mediums in his work including oil paints, spray paints and ink on canvas, wood and paper. As a native of San Diego, Stricker was influenced early on by Southern California culture. He has been an active contributor to the local art community, participating in various shows and festivals.

Mr Benja is an artist who plays and designs video games. After programming for video games for a long time, he could not hold back his creative side; and his persona Mr Benja was created. He paints video game characters, avatars, icons, items over a collage of related images cut from magazines and other media. His video gaming art portraits have a unique style characterized by large, deeply colored eyes.

Other artists include: Paul Naylor, RBST, Somaramos, Annie Hardy, Matthew Land, Rod Mojica, Sekoh One, Optimus Volts, Paul Vargas, GMONIK, Nick Simon, Keemowerks, Paul Brogden, Coco Miller, Brian Dombrowsky, Tayler Shaw and Kristine Tran.
