Description
This five-week, all expenses paid trip to Thailand runs under San Diego State University's Extended Studies Program. Anyone can come!
Six credits of transferable General Education credit are available for ASIAN 300 (Asia’s Global Future) and ASIAN 459 (Modern Asian Cultures).
Our Thai educational partner is Chulalongkorn University, "The Harvard of Thailand". Thru Chula we have access to the highest levels of Thai society and have in the past interviewed, received lectures from and gone on field trips with such luminaries as: A prince of the royal family, the leader of the Thai opposition party, and the Commandant of the Thai military academy.
We will visit fantastically beautiful coastal and rainforest landscapes, see golden palaces and ancient ruins, learn a bit of the language and far more. For more than a month we will be steeped in one of the oldest, least disturbed and friendliest cultures in the world.
The cost for participation is very cheap considering the length of the trip. Title: Thailand: Culture and Environment Duration: May 24-July 2, 2009 Cost: $3996 (includes tuition and fees, almost all lodging and food, all local transportation including one flight inside Thailand, lectures, field trips, weeklong trip to southern Thailand, all museum fees, and much more!)
The program will be led by Dr. David Larom, a lecturer in the SDSU Asia Pacific Studies Department and ISCOR (International Security and Conflict Resolution) program. Dr. Larom's doctoral dissertation treated elephant communication. He went on to postdoctoral study of whale communication and Navy sonar issues before spending eight years as a Senior Engineer and Product Manager at Qualcomm, Inc. Dr. Larom's passion for environmental teaching, research and service led him to return to university life.
