The San Diego Mesa College Art Gallery is proud to present "Above Us Only Sky" an art exhibition featuring the work of San Diego sculptor Becky Guttin. The exhibition will run from March 10 to April 17, 2011.
On March 10, 2011, we will be holding our opening reception at 4:30 p.m. followed by an artist lecture at 7:00pm.
Guttin's sculptures are made of a myriad of materials that represent cultural and sociological variety, solid brick and mortar, re-bar and glass, wood and cardboard. Reminding us alternatively of the cookie cutter suburban developments and the ramshackle inventiveness of a favela they cut across differences to reveal a universal need for shelter and protection.
She meditates on our need to build a home, to construct a house, to find a place where we belong through lyrical variations on a simple recognizable form.
Hours: The gallery is open Mon.-Wed. 11 - 4 p.m., Thursday 11 - 8 p.m. Closed Fridays, weekends and school holidays.
