Athenaeum Music & Arts Library: Victoria Martino, Musical Milestones

Violinist and art historian Victoria Martino is internationally recognized for her commitment to championing the neglected oeuvres of major composers and artists. Her extensive experience as a scholar and critic in the fields of music and art has led her to the unfortunate conclusion that most of her professional colleagues around the world tend to limit their expertise to a very narrow repertoire.
Victoria has been working tirelessly for the past two decades to redress this unnecessary imbalance by systematically focusing her performances and lectures on works by great composers and artists that have been overlooked for the simple reason that they have not been included in mainstream trends and fashions. In this spirit of restoration, she returns to the Athenaeum in April for a special lecture-concert series celebrating major anniversaries—birth (b) and/or death (d)—of some of history's most illustrious composers.
April 1: Renaissance (Titelouze, Dowland, Gesualdo, Scheidemann)
April 8: Italian Baroque (Vitali, Corelli)
April 15: 19th Century (Wagner, Verdi)
April 22, 29 & May 6: 20th-century (Britten, Poulenc, Hindemith, Lutoslawski)
