ArtHatch and Distinction Gallery are excited to present compelling new show featuring the artwork of JoKa, Dan Barry and Mike Bell, entitled “Irresistibly Idiosyncratic”. Drawing from nostalgic and popular imagery these three skilled artists approach their art with meticulous techniques and craftsmanship.

The Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 from 6-10pm with Live Music, complimentary Wine and Stone Brewery Beer for guests 21 of age or older.

Using a technique called Pointillism, JoKa methodically spends hours dotting his canvases using toothpicks to create his images. JoKa creates his art with different layers of meaning, some absurd, some serious but usually based on humor. JoKa’s surreal works remind us that a singularity of meaning isn’t always possible in the world we inhabit.

Lowbrow artist, Mike Bell is influenced by a number of cultural forces such as Japanese cartoons, vintage toys and classic monsters. Bell paints illusionistic as well as cartoony, sometimes with a hazy distinction. The outcome is a world where the weird is wonderful and the inhuman is alive.

Using collected imagery, found objects and meticulous drawing techniques, the artist Dan Barry creates layers of images set in a world of humor and at times fragile vulnerability. With a background in Liberal Arts, this now Texan artist is successfully exploring his talents as a modern visual artist.

The exhibition will run from March 10 – April 7, 2012.

ArtHatch is a 7000 square foot building which houses the front gallery: exhibitions changing monthly, "The Alley," featuring new and previous works from over 75 artists, the teen room featuring artwork by 6 local teens, 14 artist studios, ranging in size from 150 to 800 square feet, featuring the work of over 28 local artists, and "The Lounge", containing 8 walls featuring local artists. The front gallery features contemporary and cutting edge artwork.

A variety of art books, prints, and collectors dolls are now available for purchase as well as an in house art supply store.
