Our biennial exhibition with a twist. Art faculty invite guests to exhibit artwork alongside their own. Exhibit runs from October 13 - November 9, 2011.
How do we connect with our art community? Faculty Plus One broadens those connections, not only presenting artworks by our faculty but also providing a glimpse of other artists that they admire, have things in common with, or that inspire them. Faculty members invited an artist to show a piece alongside their own.
Faculty members include Anna Stump, whose provocative painting series titled "Sexy Jesus" was recently featured in the Huffington Post . Wendell Kling, Brian Dick and invited artist Jeff Irwin were highlighted in MCASD's "Here, Not There" exhibition last year.
Performance by Yve Laris-Cohen, 5:30pm in the Gallery. Laris Cohen, will perform a new text-based live work, drawing upon his ballet training, his lifelong relationship to Mesa College, and his archive of performance detritus.
Reinforcing on the idea of the community, Mesa College will be hosting a Pecha Kucha taking place following the reception at 7:00 pm in G101. A Pecha Kucha is a 20 second - 20 slide presentation format that will focus on the city¹s creative scene through a collaborative lens.
Featured guests include Larry Caveney who runs the Garage, artist and curator Nuvia Crisol Guerra, Susan Myrland, curatorial director for the ART LABS 2011, Cheryl Nickel, co-founder of Space 4 Art, Perry Vasquez, member of The Border Corps and artist David White founder and director of Agitprop.
**After the presentations there will be time for a Q&A and discussion.
