Scripps Ranch Theatre is proud to open its 34th season with “Perfect Wedding,” a hilarious contemporary farce written by Robin Hawdon, best known for his production of “Don’t Dress for Dinner.” The show will be directed by Jessica John and stars Jon Sachs, Dana Hooley, Jake Rosko, Teri Brown, Danielle DeCarlo and Maelyn Gandola.
The show opens Sept. 8, 2012 and there will be a preview performance Sept. 7. Shows run Fridays - Sundays through Oct. 7, 2012 at SRT’s Legler Benbough Theatre on the Alliant University campus. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. for Sunday matinees.
Jill Drexler, Scripps Ranch Theatre Artistic Director, said "This was the most requested play by our subscribers. It’s about a groom-to–be, who awakens on his wedding day with a terrible hangover and finds a strange woman in his bed. His challenge is to either get her out of the room or concoct a plausible story of why she’s there before his fiancée and future mother-in-law arrive. It is truly a love story wrapped in a farce.”
SRT is thrilled to welcome back a cast of audience favorites for this lively production. Brown most recently starred in the SRT hit, “California Suite;: DeCarlo was last seen in “Not Now, Darling;” Gandola appeared SRT’s production of “How the Other Half Loves;” Hooley was in SRT’s “Last Night of Ballyhoo;” and Sachs recently appeared at SRT in “Social Security,” “Holiday Memories” and “Murder in Green Meadows.” Rosko is making his debut at Scripps Ranch Theatre and was last seen opposite both Jon Sachs and Jessica John in Moonlight Theatre’s “The Mousetrap.”
John returns to direct at SRT after directing the highly popular "Deathtrap!" two years ago. She was founder and Executive Artistic Director of Backyard Productions, which was honored for its co-productions of “A Bright Room Called Day” and” A Lie of the Mind.” She is a Cygnet Theatre Resident Artist and was named one of San Diego Magazine’s “People to Watch” in 2005.
John is most recognized as an actress, receiving multiple San Diego Critic Circle Awards and KPBS Patte’ Awards for her work in such shows as Renaissance Theatre’s “A View from the Bridge,” Cygnet Theatre’s “Burn This” and “The Playboy of the Western World” at New Village Arts. Most recently, she was seen in dramatic productions of “The Pride” at Diversionary Theatre and “Angels in America” with Ion Theatre.
John, however, has also made a name for herself by starring in a large number of comedies including “Communicating Doors” and “Private Lives” at Cygnet Theatre, Moonlight Theatre’s “Ring Round the Moon,” “Crimes of the Heart” at New Village Arts, “Pulp” at Moxie Theatre and the North Coast Repertory production of “Lend Me a Tenor.”
John said, “I really love farces and I love this one in particular. There’s something so hilariously stressful about weddings that pretty much anyone can relate to, whether they’ve been a part of one or just attended one. Then surrounding all of that mayhem, there’s this incredible overriding theme of love. It’s so fun to watch these actors play all of those angels and we have such an outstanding cast of talented actors to do it. They’re such funny, funny people, but they’re also lovable people and they’re able to bring out everything that’s ridiculous and touching in each one of the characters.”
Ticket prices are $27 for general admission, $24 for students, seniors and active military. For reservations, call 858-578-7728.
