Planned Giving

"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give."

- Sir Winston Churchill

Leave a Legacy

KPBS's mission is simple: to provide quality programming that educates, informs and enriches people of all ages. By following this simple mandate, KPBS-FM has become the most listened to news station in San Diego. Our radio, television, and web programs reach over 90% of the San Diego area's households each month. A legacy gift to KPBS through your will, trust, or other planned gift will ensure that public broadcasting will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Build an Endowment

A portion of your legacy gift will go to fund current operations, and the rest will be contributed to the KPBS endowment. KPBS endowment funds are invested and managed by San Diego State University Carol Channing Research Foundation, which manages over $12 million for the university. Earnings generated by the endowment are used to support KPBS' programs and operations. As our endowment grows, so will our long-term financial stability and our ability to focus our energies on what we do best - provide quality programming to San Diego and the surrounding communities.

Save Taxes

A planned gift can give you immediate tax deductions and partially tax-free income in the future. By structuring your gift to take advantage of these tax benefits, you can truly leverage the amount that goes to support public broadcasting.

A Friend for Life

With your legacy gift, you will become a KPBS Friend for Life. Friends for Life are a special group of supporters whose gifts touch the San Diego community for lifetimes to come.  If you prefer, your gift can be anonymous or in honor of someone special in your life.

OVERVIEW OF PLANNED GIFTS

There are as many different ways to support KPBS as there are needs for your support. The other pages on this site will offer ideas as to how you can be a part, truly a partner, in the shaping, developing and encouragement of quality programming through your gifts and support of KPBS (see background concerning the origins of this program).

Take a moment to see how people - perhaps in circumstances similar to yours - found ways to support their charities and in turn enriched their hearts and provided needed support to others. If you are new to the concepts of planned giving, you may want to start with Overview of Planned Gifts. You may also want to visit our Planned Giving Calculator to see what a planned gift would mean in your circumstances.

If you have already included KPBS in your estate plans, please let us know by calling or writing to us.  We would enjoy the opportunity to thank you and would like to make sure your intentions are carried out properly.

For more information about planned gifts, please contact Stephanie Bergsma at (619) 594-7822 or by email.  You may also write to: KPBS Friends for Life, 5200 Campanile Drive, San Diego, CA 92182.
