Thousands expected to participate in National Night Out

The first National Night Out was launched 23 years ago. It was a grass-roots effort aimed at getting people to know their neighbors while keeping an eye out for crime. It has also strengthened ties between police and the communities they serve. In San Diego County, thousands of people are expected to get involved. Leaving on the porch light, chatting outside with neighbors or attending a community event.

The City of San Marcos has promoted Night Out for 20 years now. KPBS Morning Anchor Dwane Brown spoke with Veronica Martinez, a public services specialist with the City of San Marcos. (click "listen" icon to hear the story)
