Senate votes in favor of acquiring Mt. Soledad cross

The U.S. Senate has voted to acquire a concrete cross in San Diego and the Memorial park around it. It's an effort to protect the embattled monument from being taken down.

The bill was previously passed by the House and will now be forwarded to President Bush. The Mount Soledad cross has been the target of a 17-year court battle between an atheist and the city of San Diego, which owns the hilltop where the monument stands.
