New students flood SDSU
Thursday, August 24, 2006
About 10,000 new students are expected to attend SDSU when classes begin next week. First-time freshmen make-up the largest portion of the incoming class. About 5,000 of them are expected. University President Stephen Weber is happy with the enrollment growth, but he's most pleased with the rising number of minority students at SDSU.
Weber: "San Diego State is now attracting well prepared, academically gifted highly motivated students of color. The retention rate is up, the graduation rate is up and we are very, very proud of that."
University officials expect minority students to make-up 43-percent of the student body this year. That's up by one-percent from last year. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
