City Councilman Peters Makes Promises
Friday, January 6, 2006
Peters acknowledged the multiple investigations into the city's finances, countless audit delays and that budget cuts have chipped away at public confidence in city leadership. But a change in that leadership with Mayor Jerry Sanders and a switch in how the city is governed to the strong mayor system offer San Diego a fresh start, Peters said. And he promised to refocus the council on the people's business.
Peters: "Today I stand before you with a promise to be accessible and accountable to my council colleagues and the taxpayers of our great city. I promise to be the peoples' advocate and to think about what's best for all of San Diego and to help lead our way."
Mayor Jerry Sanders, who will be giving his own speech on the state of the city next week, called Peters' speech excellent. Amita Sharma, KPBS News.
