FBI Memo Warns Border Patrol of Hired Assassins

A Border Patrol memo is warning that human smugglers may hire assassins to kill Border Patrol agents. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has the story.

A copy of the internal memo was provided to the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin by a Border Patrol agent from Arizona.

According to the paper, the alert states unidentified human smugglers from Mexico are angry about increased border security and plan to hire contract killers to take out Border Patrol agents.

The paper reports the memo is based on an FBI intelligence. However, FBI spokeswoman Jan Cladwell will not discuss it.

Cladwell: "These are ongoing, classified pieces of material and information that come through so that's just nothing that I can say."

The Daily Bulletin reports the memo says the human smugglers intend to bring members of the Mara Salvatrucha street gang into the United States to perform the killings. Authorities say the gang is not a problem in San Diego. Amy Isackson, KPBS news.
