Fed. Funded Emergency Center opens early to aide East County blaze

San Diego County officials opened the Emergency Operations Center ahead of schedule in response to the Horse fire in East County. It's packed with communication and video gear to coordinate law enforcement and emergency response during a disaster. Supervisor Dianne Jacob says the remodeling of the center is money well spent:

Jacob: This is the heart of every single emergency in the county and from this heart pumps out very important communications and information to people who are out there in danger and those who can help those individuals."

The center includes a 300 inch split screen wall monitor and five different telephone networks to guarantee continuous communication.

A Homeland Security grant funded the nearly $1 million upgrade.
