Sanders first ninety days

San Diego city hall presented a united front today, as mayor Jerry Sanders offered an evaluation of his first 90 days in office. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.

Councilwoman Donna Frye who ran against Jerry Sanders for the mayor's seat, praised the mayor for his focus on district issues as well as city wide issues. She says her support for him now is not contrived but sincere. City Attorney Mike Aguirre, who has not had a smooth relationship with most city officials, chose to compliment the mayor.

Aguirre: "I'm happy to work with him becuase I learn from him - he has a very even temper that's something I can learn from and want to emulate. He not only is doing a very effective job for the people of San Diego, but he is setting the right tone internally, getting people to work with each other on these very controversial issues."

Mayor Sanders says he's working to rebuild trust at city hall. The real test of his effectiveness will come when the budget is released next month. Much will depend on the pension board's estimate of the true size of the deficit, to be released March 17th. Alison St John, KPBS news.
