Children’s hospital employee charged with molestation, child pornography
Thursday, March 9, 2006
San Diego Police have arrested a 54 year old man who works as a respiratory therapist at Children's Hospital.
Authorities say the man took pornographic pictures of at least nine incapacitated children and molested two. The man worked at the hospital for 26 years and had no criminal record. KPBS Reporter Amita Sharma has more.
Police say Wayne Bleyle used a cellphone to take pictures of the youngsters at the Hospital's convalescent facility which houses children who cannot bathe, dress or feed themselves.
Authorities say Bleyle made the photos available over the Internet. In addition to child porn charges, Bleyle faces two counts of lewd acts on a child. Chief of Staff Cynthia Kuelbs says many of the children have been at the facility for years.
Kuelbs: "We are furious that this man has victimized these vulnerable children and that in doing so he's betrayed the trust not only of these children but all the children in this community, the trust that children should have in all the adults who care for them."
Parents of the victims are devastated but officials say so far no one has removed their child from the facility. Amita Sharma, KPBS News.
