Actor Johnny Depp has recently endeared himself to audiences with roles such as Jack Sparrow in The Pirates of the Caribbean, Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and J. M. Barry in Finding Neverland. But with The Libertine (opening March 10 in select theaters), he challenges audiences to accept him as The Earl of Rochester, a fascinating cad of a character.
Two consultants in the next booth were insisting the other day that San Diego has missed its chance to be a great city. I don't know what they were selling, but it wasn't San Diego. In all the years I've been writing about San Diego, this city has never had so many lavish opportunities as now.
