The San Diego Police Officers Association today endorsed Republican candidate Brian Bilbray in the crowded 50th Congressional District race.
Association President Bill Nemec says Bilbray's history of supporting police officers and laws against sexual predators are among the reasons for the group's support.
Nemec: "He has a grasp of what law enforcement is facing in this community with the border, with our border with Mexico and some of the issues that involve our ports."
The police association has 1,800 members. There are 18 candidates in the 50th District race.
Bilbray is one of 14 Republicans in the April 11th special election to replace former Congressman Randy Duke Cunningham. Cunningham is serving an eight-year prison term after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery.
