SD Residents protest second runway at Lindbergh Field

Residents and community leaders are protesting a plan to add a second runway to Lindbergh Field. The San Diego Airport Authority is considering the idea to help meet the region's future air travel needs. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

Community members chanted and held large signs outside the authority's main office. They want to send a clear message that a second runway at Lindbergh does not make sense. The proposal is one of nine the airport agency is considering. San Diego City Councilman Kevin Faulconer says the authority should scratch this idea off the list.

Faulconer: "I'm concerned that in the last hour, we keep revisiting these proposals that make no sense. And I'm urging the airport authority to look forward because they know a second runway at Lindbergh just does not work."

The airport authority rejected the Lindbergh expansion option before because it was too costly and would displace businesses and residents.
