Advocacy group picks best, worst public projects

A San Diego taxpayer advocacy group has picked the best and worst public projects in the region this past year. Reporter Ana Tintocalis has a look at some of the finalists.

San Diego is a finalist for a golden fleece award, again this year, because the city's ongoing financial crisis has yet to be resolved. The fleece is awarded to a project is situation where taxpayer dollars are wasted. Taxpayer Association president Lani Lutar says the city's real estate assets department is also a finalist this year.

Lutar: The chaos and complete disorganization within that Department. Not knowing what assets the city owns and not having a proper leasing system.

The news is not all bad for the city. Lutar says the city's sewer department is up for a golden watchdog award. It recognizes efforts that save taxpayer dollars. The department is being recognized for inspecting miles of sewer lines with television cameras. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
