Hundreds gather at Ft. Rosecrans for Memorial Day service

Hundreds of people turned out for a special Memorial Day Service at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma Monday. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

San Diego County residents remembered loved ones who served in the military. Veterans from all branches wore medals, carried flags and offered colorful wreaths for fallen comrades. Brigader General John Paxton was the featured speaker. He told the somber audience that Memorial Day is special and unique.

Paxton: "Indeed only the great nations have a memorial day where they set a side a specific day each year to pause and reflect on those who went before and those who made the ultimate sacrifice."

Paxton says Memorial Day is a time to think about, what he calls, the three R's, reflection, recognition and recommitment to the mission and men of the armed services. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
