When local Marine Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman was deployed to Iraq, he never imagined he would find in the wreckage of Fallujah his best friend. In From Baghdad, With Love: A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava , Kopelman and writer Melinda Roth tell the true tale of how a mischievous stray dog wins the hearts and minds of battle-hardened Marines, and how Kopelman’s promise that the dog would make it home to the U.S. took on a much larger meaning.
