Patients Encouraged to Take Control of Their Own Healthcare

More and more, patients are faced with a huge and bureaucratic health care system. They get health care from lots of different people in many different locations. And to an extent, they are left to fend for themselves in this highly complex environment.

Tonight, KPBS-TV and other public television stations will begin airing a series called Remaking American Medicine. Series producer Matthew Eisen says the point of the series to show patients that they can have a lot of influence on the system. The Remaking American Medicine series begins this Thursday at 10 p.m. on KPBS-TV and continues each Thursday this month.
