Tom Fudge : The United States is said to be a divided country. Split in two between Democrats and Republicans. So why do the Republicans win all of the elections?

Mind you, they do face a challenge in next month’s election. But at this point, they do control the Oval Office, the House and the Senate, not to mention most Governorships. Some experts believe the Republican majority has become so resilient that it will likely weather the storm of 2006.

Tom Hamburger and Peter Wallsten are reporters for the L.A. Times who’ve covered politics for many years. They’ve written a book called One Party County: The Republican Plan for Dominance in the 21st Century.
