Alan Ray (Guest Host):
It's a long way from Marty Robbins and the wicked Felina in the El Paso cantina to Pistolera. Pistolera is Spanish for "female gunslinger", or some say, "trigger woman." They're a Brooklyn-based band with strong San Diego connections. The promotional one-sheet describes their music as "a hybrid of indie pop-rock and regional Mexican music that defines Latin pop-folklorico.”
Their lead singer is Sandra Velasquez. It was a girl group, but now they've got a guy playing bass. Ani Cordero is on the drums, Maria Elena plays the accordion and Inca B. Satz is on bass. Pistolera's debut album is Siempre Hay Salida which, in English, translates as “there's always a way out.”
