FORT RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) -- The Army has identified two artillerymen who were killed last week in Iraq, one of whom was a San Diego native.
Specialist Daniel F. Reyes of San Diego died July 31st from wounds suffered from an indirect fire attack on Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq. Spokesman Captain Richard Hyde says Sergeant Bradley Marshall of Little Rock, Arkansas, was also killed in the attack.
Hyde says there was a delay in releasing the two men's names because there was a difficulty in notifying some next-of-kin.
Reyes was 24. He joined the Army in June 2005 and was assigned to Fort Richardson the following January with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division.
Eleven other paratroopers were injured in the incident, one seriously. The other ten were treated and returned to duty.
Fifty-one soldiers have been killed with the Fort Richardson unit since they deployed last fall.
