Audit Looks at CSU Hiring Practice

A new state audit out today says CSU campuses don't always consider gender and ethnicity when hiring professors. The report says women and minorities were not always represented on hiring search committees. State Assemblywoman Lori Saldana requested the audit. She says it's an eye-opener.

Saldana: What is surprising is the inconsistencies. I assumed that the CSUs had in place consistent hiring practices and that is clearly not the case."

The audit recommends CSU issue consistent hiring guidelines to all 23 campuses. CSU spokesman Paul Browning says they agree with the recommendation. But he defends their diversity and notes the overall hiring rates for female and minority professors are greater than the available employee pool.
