Ellen Page and Michael Cera star in Juno

A couple of nights ago, I watched the new indie film Juno and, after a rough start, really ended up liking it. The script is so funny and the acting strong all around (Ellen Page, Michael Cera, J.K. Simmons!, Jason Bateman, Allison Janney, even Jennifer Garner).

Music is a huge part of the film, as director Jason Reitman ( Thank You For Smoking ) uses familiar songs from the indie rock and singer-songwriter pantheon to set a tone that's kind of a cross between Rushmore , Ghost World , and Garden State . Ellen Page , who plays Juno, had a say in the music that was used. You can read her entertaining interview with Pitchfork here . The soundtrack became available yesterday on iTunes.

Here's the track list:

01 Barry Louis Polisar: "All I Want Is You"

02 Kimya Dawson: "Rollercoaster (Juno Film Version)"

08 Kimya Dawson: "Loose Lips"

09 Sonic Youth: "Superstar"

10 Kimya Dawson: "Sleep (Instrumental)"

11 Belle & Sebastian: "Expectations"

12 Mott the Hoople: "All the Young Dudes"

13 Kimya Dawson: "So Nice So Smart"

14 Cat Power: "Sea of Love"

KPBS film critic Beth Accomando will post her review of Juno tomorrow. Also, listen to KPBS' Morning Edition on Monday to hear her interview with former stripper turned screenwriter Diablo Cody . And...yes, KPBS is clearly on the Juno story... we'll talk about the film next Wednesday on Film Club of the Air . Guess who liked it and guess who hated it? Ann

I saw this movie with my daughter. This was a father/daughter date for the christmas season. It was a very good movie. I have reco'd to others already. It made me look back when my daughter was in high school and when I caught my daughter and boyfriend "doing the deed". We had a long talk after that. I love my daughter very much and more after the movie.

This was the best movie this year so far...then again, we're only 7 days into it. Overall, it was an incredible movie. What made it even better were the songs that were played. songs by Cat Power & The Kinks. Which came as a shock to me because not very many people are fond of the sounds they produce. More indiesh folk type. Can't wait until the soundtrack releases..Jan 8th!!
