UCSD to Begin Stricter Audits in Wake of Grade Tampering Report

U.C. San Diego Chancellor Mary Ann Fox says major changes will take place at the university's Preuss Charter School. It's an effort to restore the school's reputation and credibility. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

Fox and members of Preuss' board of directors somberly acknowledged the report which found numerous incidents of grade tampering. They say they're moving forward with the audit's long-list of corrective actions -- including hiring an independent consulting firm to conduct frequent audits at the school, and oversight by Chancellor's Fox office.

She admits the university could have been more involved.

Fox : Clearly we have extensive oversight through the board but when an event as documented in this audit report happens, it’s clear we need to make some revisions in the kind of oversight which is offered.

Fox and other administrators admit Pruess did not have enough supervision or a reliable system when it comes to documenting grades. The principal is on paid leave and her future at the school is unclear.
