The new hospital is being built on a 52-acre site in northwest Escondido. When it’s completed, the facility will stand eleven stories tall and will house up to 600 beds.

Michael Covert is CEO of Palomar-Pomerado Health. He says the new hospital will be on the cutting edge of healthcare technology.

Covert : For example, acuity-adaptable rooms, where the patient doesn't actually have to leave the room, but because of the acuity of care, we can move it up or down as their needs see fit.

North County voters approved a $496 million bond measure for the hospital three years ago. The final price tag is expected to top $800 million. The district says it will sell revenue bonds to cover the rest of the cost.
