The Water Horse
of the title (and this is not really a spoiler considering how the book was promoted and what the trailers have revealed) is a kind of sea creature that looks like a cross between a dragon and a pleiseosaurus. And since the story is set in Scotland, the creature might be none other than the famed Loch Ness Monster.
