Ron Nehring, the chair of the Republican Party of San Diego for the past 6 years, is now the chairman of the California Republican Party. We speak about his plans to compete with a Democratic majority

Tom Fudge: The California Republican Party just named a San Diegan as its chairman. Ron Nehring has been chairman of the County GOP for several years. In the role as state chair, he succeeds Schwarzenegger confidant Duf Sundheim.

Nehring has built a reputation as an effective fundraiser who has a talent for keeping party functionaries focused on winning elections. He also has the reputation for being quite conservative. For instance, he's been a close colleague of Grover Norquist, the Washington activist who is devoted to shrinking the federal government.
